Open the battery compartment. If you have used it, and water seeped in, wipe the battery compartment and batteries dry and allow it to air dry for a couple of hours. Simply smear a small amount of petroleum jelly along the edge of the raised area of the compartment that has the small rubber gasket, and along both surfaces where the battery cover comes into contact with the main housing of the pump. Re-insert the batteries and replace the battery compartment cover by tightening the screw. This small amount of pet jelly will form a perfect seal, preventing water from entering the battery compartment.
My wife and I use the SinuSense twice a day (separate nozzle covers of course!), and there is no water in the battery compartment.
After my wife learned to hold her breath and keep her mouth closed, she no longer swallows any of the rinse. It goes up one nostril, and out the other. Her stuffy nose situation is much relieved. And despite her initial fears, she did not drown. Thirty-three years of marriage and counting. Who knows, we just may still make it to fifty!
On another note, I will be contacting Waterpik regarding this product. Although I was able fix this leaking problem easily with the application of a little petroleum jelly, this situation should never have occurred if they had tested this product before selling it to the public.
